Cultural Appropriation vs Appreciation

14 May at 4.30 pm - 6.00 pm

Free

The City of Armadale is proud to host renowned Aboriginal artists Rohin Kickett and Ron Bradfield Jnr and well known multidisciplinary artist Mathew McVeigh who will provide some important insights for creatives who want to understand more about identifying the difference between cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation in their art.

The session will address the topics such as what is cultural appropriation? How does it differ from cultural appreciation? If you are inspired by Aboriginal culture, is this able to be portrayed respectfully through your work, and what are the parameters for this?

We highly recommend this session to any artist that refers to or is inspired by Aboriginal culture. So come and build on your awareness around this important topic, learn how to navigate cultural space and to build meaningful relationships. Participants will also be invited to stay for a cuppa and informal chat after the session.

Tickets are free, however places are limited so make sure you book to secure your place.
