Working in a Writer’s Room

12 May at 12.30 pm - 4.00 pm

Free

The workshops will provide an opportunity for the community to learn the basic skills to become a part of a Writer’s Room. The main requirement for a member of a Writer’s Room to be effective is life experience (all writers draw on their life experiences).

The course will start with an overview of how a writing room works before going into specific details about:

  • How to generate story ideas and never have writer’s block.
  • Using free screenwriting software to format scripts to global film industry standards
  • How to create believable characters that resonate with audiences
  • How to balance plot, character, setting and theme into a coherent narrative
  • The importance of research in developing a series that is believable and authentic
  • The ethical use of AI in the Arts
  • How to write great dialogue
  • The importance of revision
  • How to pitch TV series
